Foamy beach

No, seriously, I mean a *really* foamy beach!

Cool pictures, but I wouldn't let that stuff touch my bare skin. Who knows what's in it or what caused it.

Here's another link at the UK's Daily Mail.

Labor Day Weekend

Next weekend is especially special. First, it's a three-day weekend which is always nice. It is also the first anniversary of moving into our house. But best of all it is our second wedding anniversary. I'm glad we have three days to celebrate all that.

We don't have any travel plans. I think we are going to stick around town and do some of the "touristy" things, hence the email some of you received. Thanks for the feedback. It seems our options are limited, which will happen when you live in a smaller city (population between 200,000 and 250,000). I did get a few suggestions that were new to me. Some of our options include the botanical garden, Children's Zoo, Museum of Art, Corvette Museum, city parks, sporting events including Roller Derby, and quick trips to nearby cities (Auburn, Berne, etc). There are several restaurants possibilities, too, Biagi's, Dragon's Keep Cafe, Cindy's Diner, Coney Island Hot Dogs, Rich's Cafe, Munchie's, Panera, Casa's, Don Hall's, and Powers, to name a few. And probably Zesto's for dessert, but only at the original one on Broadway. The other's just don't taste the same.

I do have one trick up my sleeve that no one mentioned, but I'm not going to give it away just yet.

Weekly update

There was supposed to be a metoer shower last weekend, so we went to my parents' lake cottage on Saturday and stayed the night. The moon wasn't shining and the clouds had cleared up, so we had a great view of the night sky. We waited until it was good and dark, then piled in the boat and idled out to the middle of the lake.

The news reports said it might be possible to see one meteor a minute on average. Our results weren't quite that high, but we did see several while we were out. I think we were out for 45 minutes and saw 7 meteors. I wonder how many you can see on a regular night.

Oh, by the way, boats aren't designed for laying back and staring at the sky.

There were some bugs out, but they didn't bother people as much as the low-flying bats.

It was fun watching the meteors, but I wish we could have seen more. The lake isn't as remote as it used to be, so there was still light polution, but it was much better than it would have been in town.

I tried to line up our little telescope on a star, but the view finder wasn't working correctly. I'll have to try it again when the moon is out, since it's a bigger target and should be easier to line up.

Nearly another week gone by

Doesn't look like July and August are good posting months. Many peoples' blogs are looking slim.

I bought the Hot Fuzz DVD and watched it. It's not bad, but not as good as I was hoping for. If any of my friends want to borrow it, lemme know.

Paula has another ultrasound on Friday, but I won't be able to make it. Her mom and my mom will go though. The appointment is in the middle of the day, and way on the north side of town. I work about 20 miles south of town, so it would really break up my day to try to get up there and back. I'd rather save vacation time for when the baby is born. I made it to the first two ultrasounds. It's still too early to tell if it is a boy or a girl so I don't think I'll be missing much this time around. I wish I could make it, but it's just not going to work out well.

Have a good week.

Joke

Hmm, over a week and no updates.

Here's a joke my sister-in-law just sent me. It's worth sharing:

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names with small American flags mounted on either side of it. The seven year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, "Good morning Alex."

"Good morning Pastor, what is this?" he asked the pastor.

The pastor said, "Well, son, it's a memorial plaque to all the young men and women who died in the Service."

Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque.

Finally, little Alex's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear, asked, "Which service, the 8:30 or the 10:45?"
